Agents of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) have raided a total 747 stores and warehouses of untaxed cigarettes, vapes, and wines across the country.

However, BIR Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui, Jr. said the determination of tax liabilities of the seized items is pending as the inventory process is yet to be completed.

Lumagui emphasized that the owners of tax excisable products would face tax evasion charges and their products destroyed if proven at the course of the investigation.

The raids were carried out simultaneously in all regions and served as follow-up operations in January when the BIR seized huge volume of untaxed goods.

The BIR’s oversight extends beyond these specific products to include monitoring the production, importation, and distribution of sweetened beverages, cars, minerals, and petroleum products subject to excise tax.

Lumagui pledged to continue these enforcement operations until all producers and distributors comply with the revenue rules and regulations.
